Lineage
Who she was with and whenMaybird’s compelling story encompasses not just the lives of Lt Col Hawkes, Fred Shepherd and Jack Tyrrell but also the lives of her subsequent owners. Her story includes not just good design, seamanship and the crossing of oceans. It reminds us of how major global and national events can impact lives and how, through an association with a beautiful wooden sailing ketch, a number of individual’s and families’ lives are connected. In many ways, Maybird is a piece of living history, she is like a ‘bridge’ that spans and connects both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and also the geography of the globe.
